A liquid energy storage system capable of releasing solar energy on demand and transportable

To make solar energy a reliable, 24-hour energy source, scientists from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, have developed a liquid energy storage medium called Molecular Solar Energy (MOST).

It was learned that researchers from Chalmers University of Technology have been developing MOST for 6 years and had demonstrated the concept in 2013. Unlike other solar energy storage methods, MOST stores energy directly into organic chemicals.

Under this system, tetracycloheptane can be generated when a hydrocarbon called norbornadiene is exposed to light, and then by changing the temperature of tetracycloheptane or exposing it to a specific catalyst. Can get heat energy.

According to the team, the current system can directly convert 1.1% of sunlight into compounds. The conversion efficiency of this compound is 100 times higher than that of the 2013 version. In addition, this new liquid storage system can replace the previously used base metals and rare metals with cheaper carbon elements. In addition, MOST has not experienced any degradation after more than 140 storages.
