Professor Goodenough said that their findings can solve many of the problems inherent in batteries today. Researchers use solid glass electrolytes instead of liquid electrolytes to prevent the formation of metal whiskers. Solid-state batteries have an energy density that is at least three times that of today's lithium-ion batteries, and they are more than 1,200 times charged and discharged.
