Wärtsilä was selected to supply a set of power and propulsion packages for the ferry, which will be commissioned in 2018.
It is reported that the ferry's power system will use batteries and four 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 generator sets, controlled by a 690v main switchboard. Wärtsilä will also supply an integrated automation system and power management system.
According to Corvus, the use of the Orca solution for hybrid power and propulsion systems on board will increase efficiency, reduce emissions and reduce noise. This is the third large ship project that the company has partnered with Wärtsilä.
Corvus's Orca batteries are mainly available in two products: Orca Energy is mainly used in large configurations with relatively long periods of time, such as ferries and merchant ships. Orca Power provides strong positioning response, such as offshore vessels, tugs and port equipment.
